Did I Step On Your Trumpet?

This might be the catchphrase of the summer, according to Daniel Smith.

Last night we saw Danielson, Saturday Looks Good to Me, and Jeff Lewis (with the Luddites) at Northsix.

Danielson played through the new album Ships, which to my ears sounds a bit more listenable/likable upon first play than his previous efforts. They wore new outfits to match (although the outfits were maybe more flight attendent than nautical.) I thought the show was better than when I last saw Danielson solo.

If you want to follow up on the catchphrase thing, read Danielson's explanation. You can download Did I Step on Your Trumpet? and also request a special pin in order to apologize for metaphorically stepping on someone's trumpet and begin the effort to mend their "ship."

Apparently the Danielson movie is coming out soon.

Saturday Looks Good to Me were pretty much Fred Thomas and two guys for this show. None of the extra singers that made the last two albums great. Thomas announced early on that they were playing all new songs, which they did except for playing Dialtone. It seemed like a concert of demos; I think Thomas is a good songwriter and am interested to see how these songs develop on record.

You can download some sort of rare SLGTM songs from their myspace.

The first band we saw last night was Jeff Lewis and the Luddites. He played two low budget videos, including the History of Communism Part 3. Overall this show was a bit louder than the last time I saw him, but it was a good time. He didn't play the Will Oldham Horror song that I so enjoy, but still fun.
