Well, I got my extra copy of the Believer music issue last night, but there were some moments of tedium (and some of interest) before getting out of there.
First came Hannah Marcus, who seemed to be having all kinds of problems, from piano sounds of questionable nature, deciding to start playing songs, to difficulty in adjusting microphones. She seemed fairly uncomfortable. The songs weren't terrible but the breaks between were fairly awful. Still, a lot of people seemed into this.
Next was a discussion between Rick Moody and Daniel Smith/Brother Danielson. It covered Mr. Smith's art school rediscovery of Christian leanings and other things. Then some Danielson songs were played. Kind of intriguing live, but his voice gives me a hard time on the records I've heard. No tree suit last night, but here is a picture. There is also some kind of Danielson movie in production.
Closing the night was Wolf Parade.
They were down a man for some confusing reason, but still played loud and seemed pleased with themselves. They were pretty compelling, but watch out for the uber-hype.
You can listen to some Wolf Parade on this site.
Here is the Subpop Wolf Parade site.
