New Pornographers at Webster Hall

New Pornographers played Webster Hall with Destroyer and Immaculate Machine on Wednesday night, and we saw it.

New Pornographers played an awful lot of new stuff. The stuff that I liked on the album I liked live. The slower stuff I am not so into. The old stuff was pretty much all good. Destroyer Dan slinked on and off the stage whenever he had a song to sing. Neko had a dress that the drummer compared to Stevie Nicks, and then they played a very falling-apart version of Dreams. I thought the two encores was a bit manipulated after a not so long main set, but it ended with letter from an occupant, so it was worth it.

People seemed very happy to see Destroyer, who was backed by two NPs for his set with an extra guitar as well. I enjoyed it. It was a bit strange setting for this band, but they were good.

Immaculate Machine explained their family and professional relationships on stage. The girl singer is the neice of the main pornographer, and they share producers. I don't know that their songs were all that memorable, but IM had a good formula for live performance. Everyone in the trio sang, they kept it mostly poppy and fast and it was enjoyable.
