I stumbled across the tv airing of the Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Brian Wilson last night. It was a strange yet intriguing thing, with Art Garfunkel, Lyle Lovett, Hootie and the Blowfish and some kind of boys choir involved. And the shots of Diana Ross next to BW throughout....
BW talks some about it

I thought Hootie were awful (predictably), but Lovett and the choir were not bad. Matthew Sweet or R.E.M. would have been better choices, though.

Mike Love was notable in his absence.

Hootie seemed a strange choice; I guess they have name recognition still but wouldn't seem to really please critics or pop chart fans...
