Rick Rubin's task is to save the record industry, according to this NY Times Magazine story. I'm not really sure how taking band's concert and tshirt money accomplishes much, other than messing over the musicians. Rubin hasn't endorsed this yet (or come out against it); he's pretty busy redoing corporate architecture. Which I'm sure will not actually improve the music Columbia releases in anyway...
