Wickett's Remedy

Another disease book...I just finished Myla Goldberg's Wickett's Remedy. It follows Lydia from her South Boston Irish-American family to her marriage to Henry Wickett, set against the US's entry to World War I and the 1918 influenza epidemic. The story shifts between the 1918 period to the 75th anniversary of QD Soda, the recipe of which is Lydia's invention, created with Henry and then partnered with Quentin Driscoll.

This was really quite well done. There's quite a bit of primary source stuff intermixed. Ghost commentary appears at the margins of the story. I feel like this wasn't quite as acclaimed as Bee Season, but it was a good read.

Here's an interview
with "infectious disease nerd" Myla Goldberg.
