Coming from Michael Chabon:

"Jews with swords"

"This is the working title (and the working title only!) for a projected 16-part serialized novel scheduled to begin immediately after Michael Connelly's own series has completed its run, sometime in early January by my reckoning."

David Byrne on the 826NYC benefit:

"Benefits are funny things. Often the public pays exaggerated ticket price to see “watered down” versions of the musical acts — most times I myself play a few songs on acoustic guitar, as do many of the others. Now, watered down it maybe be, but sometimes the “unplugged” version is more moving and emotionally involving that the more fully arranged version — well, sometimes. When that happens it’s not a bait and switch deal."

There's a recent Mountain Goats live in-store show on the Internet Archive--the streaming player works well for me. I find it much more useful than cluttering up the computer with files that I might not want to hear again.

Inkheart is becoming a movie--complete with snarky blog commentary

The United States today:
"A seventh-grade geography teacher at Carmody Middle School in Lakewood was suspended with pay Wednesday after he refused to take down foreign flags displayed in his classroom."

"The First Baptist Church dismissed Mary Lambert on Aug. 9 with a letter explaining that the church had adopted an interpretation that prohibits women from teaching men. She had taught there for 54 years."
