Islands at Avalon, in the rain

Previously, I mentioned my enjoyment of the new album from . A bunch of weeks ago we saw them open for Metric; I noted my support of the bass clarinet.

Well last night we saw them headline at Avalon, which is open after being shut down a few weeks ago.

I again enjoyed the set, which this time included rap parts in "where's there's a will, there's a whalebone." Islands are a lot of fun live, especially with the current seven piece configuration. I was surprised that some audience members were so vehemently requesting various Islands songs; I didn't hear any requests for Unicorns songs. I kind of figured they'd play just about everything from the Islands album, as they only had one album. They played a bit of Hang on sloopy, too.

The show ended with the band leading the audience out of the club and around the block. It was raining but they still had a good following. There was some drum banging, recorder playing, and maybe a little bit of strumming/rapping. It messed with traffic and the rain a bit, which was part of the fun. Back outside the club again, we witnessed some bouncer/club anger towards the band and its manager. There was some chanting of people who wanted to go back in the club, but it wasn't happening. We didn't linger until the bitter end, and went to find food.

I enjoyed opening rapper Cadence Weapon, but couldn't stand Why?
