Mad Hot Ballroom

Sunday night I got my Tribeca Film Festival on. Went to the "Drive-In" screening of Mad Hot Ballroom. This was down by the World Financial Center. There were a few messups in presenting the film, as they actually stopped about 12 minutes in and then started again at the beginning to get the sound right. It also rained towards the end, and was a bit too cold to be sitting out.

The film itself: a very likable documentary about the ballroom dancing program in place in a whole bunch of NYC public schools. Featured were three schools: one from Washington Heights, one from Tribeca and one from Brooklyn. The film was likable because kids say funny things and make funny expressions. It was a bit of a shame that the defending champion team from Forrest Hills was a bit demonized just in comparison to the underdogs from Washington Heights.

Here's a NY Times article about the film.
