On Thursday, I went to Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I saw a Celebrate Brooklyn concert. First was Clem Snide, a band I had heard of but hadn't actually heard. They were too nerd rock for me. Not nearly enough guitar and whiny vocals with annoying lyrics. They briefly covered Jay-Z's 99 Problems. Michele doesn't like that song. I think it has a good riff, but the Clem Snide were not equipped to rock it.
Then was a screening of X: The Man with X-Ray Eyes, a film by Roger Corman, with live musical enhancement by Pere Ubu. It's an old film but was scary enough for me. At one point a surgery scene made me think I would be sick, but I recovered.
there are some interesting articles to peruse at the New York Times.
The christian alternative to Harry Potter is written by an Anglican vicar. These things have a built in audience.
The Hives continue their schtick. The single is good, the album trails off by the end. I didn't see this show, but it sounds like the one I saw a few years ago.
Guitar faces are important, maybe, but also funny. Dana Carvey did a bit on this a few years ago. By the way, this movie, is good. I like the part about blowers.
Apparently, dressing up is important to many of these new indie rockers.
