We went to the movies today and saw Charlie Wilson's War (2007). I thought it was a bit better than ok. The Aaron Sorkin script seemed pretty good and I'm pretty sure there was a Sorkin cameo. People laughed at various lines. As usual, Philip Seymour Hoffman was good, Tom Hanks was Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts was annoying. The editing/tone shifts at times seemed a bit strange. The title bit at the beginning was tasteless (A Mujahid puts the missile launcher on shoulder turns to camera and fires the title to the screen) and the depiction of the mujahideen fighting the Soviets was weirdly slapstick.
It seems difficult to sort out how much truth there is in this "based on a true story", as well, which I think also clouds my reaction.
