I watched the film adaptation of Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak last night. The movie itself was pretty well done; mostly faithful to the book with a few minor changes. Melinda's father is now unemployed; Mr. Freeman is a new teacher to the school rather than a veteran. I think the film plays better to those viewers who have read the book. The teenage acting is pretty good; I wouldn't have thought that the main acting girl was 13.
I liked the movie well enough to watch the commentary track with director Jessica Sharzer and LHA. This was pretty interesting; LHA has a mini cameo spooning mashed potatoes in the film.
Here's the IMDB site.
Laurie Halse Anderson has a page with some film info. She's also on myspace now.
