Auster's next novel, Travels in the Scriptorium, will be published in 2007. "Kind of a fable," he says. "It resonates with what's happening in America today."
For at least the next year he will be directing a movie, whose script he has also written, taken in part form his novel The Book of Illusions. His daughter, Sophie, who appeared in his 1998 film Lulu on the Bridge, which he also wrote and directed, appears in the new movie.
