Media recently consumed

I finished reading How Soccer Explains the World by Franklin Foer. It's fairly interesting, if you like soccer. The theses are overstated and all, but there are still some good bits, like the part on Jewish soccer teams in Austria before World War II and the account of a Nigerian in Ukraine. The parts about hooliganism and corruption are downers, though.

We saw Dig! on dvd. It's about the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols. The main guy from the BJM is apparently disappointed to find out that documentaries don't always have subject-approved portrayals. But I bet he's sold a few more records and tickets as a result. The Dandys come across as honest pricks, I guess. It's not a bad movie. Also, apparently drug abuse is not good for you.

We saw The 40 Year Old Virgin on Friday. As always, I think Plugged In Online puts it best: "Andy Stitzer is a virgin. And he's 40. Hence the movie's title. Hmmm, I wonder what could possibly happen next in this should-have-been-rated-NC-17 smutfest. "
