An article about the Pernice Brothers, with some more information about the Meat is Murder movie:
"With no budget to license actual Smiths songs, Pernice, who's writing the script, has been reworking the story to make it less about an obsession with a particular record and more about the way music plays a part in its adolescent central character's life. Pernice is also writing original songs for the film. His goal is to make those sound as little like Smiths songs as possible."
