Me and You and Everyone we know

Yesterday we saw Me and You and Everyone We Know. As a first major thing from a director/writer/actor, it was preferable to say Garden State, in that there wasn't such ambitious statement-making. I enjoyed it; I would claim it as fairly standard indie movie fare. Soemwhat less shock-desiring than Solondz. The IFC Center is pretty fancy, although the Cinema Arts Centre, which shows similar stuff still has its charm.

Here is the The New York Times Review

Here is the site for the movie.

Here is the Miranda July website. and a blog.

Here is an interview with Miranda July.

standard indie fare?! you're crazy. I think that was the best movie in the world--or at least one of my favorite 10, maybe in my favorite 6 or 5. I'll have to count. in any case I was completely surprised by it--there were so many things to love about it. [ew and it's incomparable it garden state. t. and I sat through that mess in shock and horror and hate.]

Well, the comparison to Garden State comes from the director/writer/actor roles of the main people. I will say that while after watching Garden State, I wished that the guy had been neither director, writer nor actor (maybe 2nd gaffer would have been ok) I did not feel that way after MAYAEWK. I did think the echoes of Solondz and Ghost World and other stuff like that were pretty evident...

definitely, ghost worldy in parts. but I didn't think of solondz at all...(of course I've only seen two movies of his...ha. but still.) the big difference was that at the end of me and you I felt happy. and my bad day/week felt different. and at the end of the solondz movies I've seen I feel physically sick and tired and worn out. lalala.

also [at the close of the t.s. films I've seen] I feel a little angry. somewhat at the sad/frustrating story points, but mostly at him. heh. [but I do love welcome to the dollhouse...it's just tiring.]

also I'm at the donnell library. and I LOVE it. and I especially love the librarian in the young adult section.

I will agree that Me and You is happier feeling than TS. I guess it seems like MJ is generally happier/more optimistic than TS. Maybe the TS echoes for me are from Storytelling in particular.

oh, too bad we couldn't have all discussed while eating some nice fake meat. maybe another time?

I think what I like best about this movie is that it's so unassuming in a way...left me wondering how it all came together as I was leaving the theater (at first thinking it didn't all come together), but as the days pass, different parts keep sticking in my head and making me come back to them.

i think while some of the themes might be similar to solondz movies, the tone is very different

hahaha. fake meat.
this comment-find was a treat. [...although following the blogger profile name link was a bit of a hopes-up/hopes-down sort of thing. heh.] and yes another time sometime soon.
